Swelling is an expected part of rhinoplasty recovery and settles at an individual pace. It need not decrease evenly each month; sudden increase should be discussed with the surgeon.
Follow advice on head position, activity and compresses. Do not place ice directly on skin or press it on the nose. Fluid intake should suit health; drinking extra water does not guarantee toxin removal or resolution of swelling. Do not start medicines, massage or taping independently. Increasing one-sided pain, redness, fever or vision change should not be dismissed as normal swelling.
The plan depends on the extent of surgery, skin, breathing and previous procedures. Consultation covers expectations, alternatives, bleeding, infection, scarring and possible further surgery. Recovery instructions must reflect your surgeon's individual plan.
Heavy bleeding, increasing pain with fever, visual changes or sudden deterioration require urgent assessment. Tell your surgeon about persistent concerns rather than waiting for the next routine appointment.
This information does not replace an individual consultation. Diagnosis and treatment depend on a medical assessment.
