Nasal surgery duration depends on whether it is septoplasty, primary or revision rhinoplasty and on its extent. The surgeon's estimate does not include all preparation and recovery from anaesthesia.
Additional cartilage harvesting or functional reconstruction may take longer. Longer surgery does not automatically mean a poor result, but duration should not be described as having no risk implications. The anaesthetist assesses health and the procedure together. Plan separately for admission, operating time and discharge. Ask for an individual estimate at consultation.
The plan depends on the extent of surgery, skin, breathing and previous procedures. Consultation covers expectations, alternatives, bleeding, infection, scarring and possible further surgery. Recovery instructions must reflect your surgeon's individual plan.
Heavy bleeding, increasing pain with fever, visual changes or sudden deterioration require urgent assessment. Tell your surgeon about persistent concerns rather than waiting for the next routine appointment.
This information does not replace an individual consultation. Diagnosis and treatment depend on a medical assessment.
