Nasal dryness may relate to dry air, irritants, some medicines or repeated manipulation. A persistent one-sided sore or bleeding needs examination.
Saline spray and a suitable water-based moisturiser may help. Clean room humidifiers regularly and avoid excess humidity or mould. Do not pick crusts or put oily products deep inside the nose without advice. Follow your surgeon's plan for postoperative dryness. Pain, offensive discharge or a non-healing sore should not be managed with moisturising alone.
Diagnosis uses symptom duration and examination; endoscopy and CT are selected when needed. Saline, appropriate nasal medicines and sometimes surgery may form an individual plan. Not every sinus complaint needs antibiotics.
Seek emergency care for swelling around the eye, reduced vision, severe unusual headache or neurological symptoms. Use sterile, distilled or previously boiled and cooled water in nasal irrigation devices.
