Why Do Nosebleeds Recur Frequently?

Recurrent nosebleeds may relate to dryness, irritation, medicines or other causes. High blood pressure should not be assumed to be the only cause; repeated bleeding warrants ENT assessment.

What should you know?

Record the side, duration, injury, nasal sprays and blood-thinning medicines. The clinician looks for a bleeding point and selects tests or endoscopy when needed. Moisturising, cautery and packing serve different situations; cautery does not guarantee no pain or recurrence. Do not stop blood thinners independently. Heavy bleeding, swallowing much blood, dizziness or weakness requires emergency help.

Assessment and next steps

Sit upright, lean forward and pinch the soft part of the nose continuously for 10–15 minutes. Breathe through your mouth; do not tilt back or repeatedly release to check. Afterwards avoid picking or forceful nose blowing.

Care and when to seek help

Seek emergency care if bleeding continues, is heavy, causes weakness or breathing difficulty, or follows head injury. Do not stop prescribed blood thinners yourself; recurrent nosebleeds need assessment.
