Allergy testing helps when diagnosis is uncertain or results would change treatment. Do not stop antihistamines, antidepressants or other medicines independently before testing.
Skin testing and specific-IgE blood tests are different methods. Some medicines affect skin tests; the testing team and prescribing clinician decide which drug to change and when. A blood test may be an alternative. A positive result shows sensitisation and must match symptoms. Select tests from the history; a broad panel does not justify restrictions for every positive result.
Treatment depends on symptoms, age and other conditions. Nasal steroids and antihistamines help when indicated; follow the product dose and technique. Long-term treatment needs monitoring, especially in children.
Do not stop medicines on your own before testing. Immunotherapy may help selected allergies but does not guarantee a cure. Breathing difficulty or swelling of the tongue or lips requires emergency care.
This information does not replace an individual consultation. Diagnosis and treatment depend on a medical assessment.
