How is Nasal Endoscopy Performed?

Nasal endoscopy uses a narrow optical instrument to inspect inside and behind the nose. It is usually brief, but pressure or discomfort can occur; complete painlessness is not guaranteed.

What should you know?

Local anaesthetic or decongestant spray may be used. Report allergies, blood thinners and previous nasal surgery. Technique in children depends on age and cooperation. Minor bleeding or a spray reaction is possible. If the throat is numbed, follow clinic advice about eating and drinking until sensation returns. Endoscopy alone does not identify every disease; further testing may be needed.

Assessment and next steps

Bring your medicine and allergy list and previous results. Your history determines which tests are needed; there is no universal extensive test package. Preparation and medicine changes should follow specific instructions from the clinic.

Care and when to seek help

Do not wait for a routine appointment if you have sudden hearing loss, breathing difficulty, new neurological symptoms or heavy bleeding; seek urgent assessment.

This information does not replace an individual consultation. Diagnosis and treatment depend on a medical assessment.
