Itching, sneezing and watery discharge may dominate allergic rhinitis. Rhinosinusitis can cause blockage, facial pressure and reduced smell; symptoms overlap.
Yellow or green discharge alone does not prove bacterial infection. Duration, progression and examination guide decisions. Allergy and infection may coexist. Chronic rhinosinusitis is not solely a microbial disease; antibiotics and surgery are not automatic answers.
Treatment depends on symptoms, age and other conditions. Nasal steroids and antihistamines help when indicated; follow the product dose and technique. Long-term treatment needs monitoring, especially in children.
Do not stop medicines on your own before testing. Immunotherapy may help selected allergies but does not guarantee a cure. Breathing difficulty or swelling of the tongue or lips requires emergency care.
